The engine in a Chevy S10 pickup truck relies on vacuum for various systems. If a vacuum line or tee should crack or become damaged to the point of leaking, the S10 may run poorly, or not at all. Diagnosing and repairing leaks in the vacuum line system can seem difficult at first glance, but with a simple trick it becomes much easier to pinpoint and repair the leak. For best results, after troubleshooting the leak, it is best to replace the leaking line or tee, instead of trying to repair it with adhesive. Start the engine, raise the hood and listen for any audible hissing noises coming from any of the vacuum lines. If you can pinpoint the location audibly, spray the area with a quick blast of carburetor cleaner. If the engine idle changes while spraying or immediately thereafter, visually inspect the area for any cracks and replace the faulty line or tee. Spray the carburetor cleaner lightly all along the vacuum lines if you cannot pinpoint the hissing sound. Do not oversaturate the lines with the carburetor cleaner. If at any point the engine idle changes, perform a visual inspection of the area you just sprayed and replace the faulty line or tee. Spray the rest of the vacuum line system after replacing any faulty lines and tees you discovered in steps 1 or 2. If no other idle changes occur and the engine still idles poorly, spray the carburetor cleaner around the intake manifold sealing surface. If any idle changes occur while spraying the intake manifold area, you either have a bad intake manifold gasket or cracked intake manifold. Bad intake gaskets usually seal themselves once the engine is brought to full operating temperature. The manifold itself will remain an issue regardless of engine temperature in most cases. Vacuum Diagram Does anyone have or know where to find a diagram for the vacuum lines coming off of the hvac unit? I have an 86 jimmy, all vents work perfect except defrost, when i click that, i get no hiss like the other positions, and the diverter doesnt move. Tried replacing the little place piece that was broken that connects the diverter door to the rod that moves. Didnt work. Replaced some vacuum lines that i found worn, didnt work. Now im trying to make sure that I have all lines hooked up that need to be for some reason im thinking im missing one on the back of the hvac unit, but cant find where it would go to. Chevy trucks share this system, if I'm not mistaken, and with billions of them on the road, you'd think there would be a schematic somewhere. I've been searching online for about the last 8 months. Cant seem to find anything. The closest anyone has been able to point me to any kind of pictures or layouts is to tell me to look at lmc truck's catalog which has a breakdown in it for ordering parts. I've found a couple little things, which is how i came across adjusting the rod that moves that door, and ordering the plastic piece for the flapper door. But thats about it unfortunately. As you said, the climate control stuff is a bit confusing, and that seems to be the general consensus around the web. I'm having the same issue with the door staying open an inch or so. I gave up and zip tied it closed. I'll keep looking to see if I can find out. I saw an 86 factory repair manual on eBay last week. Those are great for nailing stuff down like that. When I buy any vehicle a factory manual is the first thing I buy. The manual I am referring to is also for the truck series too since one is generally the same.
S10 vacuum line sizeI have been fighting with my 4WD since this summer, trying to get ready for the winter. I've poured over countless posts and YouTube videos on it, and I have replaced everything I can think of. The problem seems to be standard - after resetting the Transfer Case Control Module unplugging for a couple of minutesyou press the 4WD HI button, and it flashes, the relays click, then it just reverts to 2 HI after about 10 seconds. Do that about 3 or 4 times, and it just clicks once and goes back to 2 HI. I got the blink code from the TCCM initially, which showed a bad transfer case actuator. I replaced that, and same problem. I replaced the vacuum actuator underneath the battery tray. It showed signs of having fluid in it at one time, so I thought that might be it - nothing. I replaced the vacuum valve on top of the transmission. I re-routed all the vacuum lines coming from the vacuum valve on top of the transmission - there are no leaks. I read that there was a problem with transmission fluid making it into the vacuum system, but the other vacuum actuated valves for routing cabin air work just fine, so there is apparently vacuum available to run valves. I thought AH HA! Finally something visibly wrong. I reattached that, and still the same problem. Even though there was no corrosion, and I could hear the relays clicking, as a last ditch effort, I replaced the TCCM. Sure enough, same problem. Does anyone have any idea what I could be missing? I'll double check for any other vents, but I've replaced all the vacuum lines, so them being clogged with dirt already is unlikely. Only other thing I can think of is if by chan5you put the vacuum hoses on wrong or if it is like mine and splits from the break booster tgere may be a problem in the line elsewhere making in not get correct vacuum.

There should only be one and it will connect to the front of dash firewall there may be a block there with a hose that goes inside to the heater. I't spretty simple you shouldn't need a diagram for that. I also paid for a years subscription for the on-line auto manual, but it also does not tell me much there either. One fellow in my home town tells me that he thinks its something to do with the vacumn that the brakes take away from the engine when I apply the brakes. This could be true as when I apply the brakes, the engine seems to flutter a lot untill I release the brakes.
